The KAEE Excellence in Environmental Education Awards recognize outstanding individuals, organizations, agencies, community efforts, schools, and businesses for their meaningful contributions to environmental education in Kentucky. Nominees should demonstrate strong and ongoing involvement in the field and have made significant, lasting impacts on environmental education in the state.

The Stories Behind the Impact
Award Descriptions
The Kentucky Association for Environmental Education's Excellence in Environmental Education Awards are presented by KAEE to recognize those best exemplifying dedication, commitment, and influence in the field of environmental education (EE). Nominations may be made in the following categories:

Nomination Criteria
Long-term dedication and service to environmental education (e.g., curriculum, research, programs, policy)
Creating a workplace that supports environmental education (e.g., sustainability practices, partnerships, funding)
Demonstrated leadership and meaningful contributions to advancing environmental education
Nomination Process
Submit a Nomination Form with a narrative (up to two pages) that highlights:

The nominee’s contributions to environmental education in Kentucky
-
Their long-term service through their organization and community
-
How they’ve incorporated environmental education into their work environment
-
Any additional supporting information within the page limit
Additional Awards Detail
This award recognizes individuals who are new to the environmental education field in Kentucky, but are already making an impact. The nominee must have a minimum of one year and a maximum of five years of experience in the EE field in Kentucky.
The Rising Star Award
-
Developing and/or implementing at least one ongoing EE program in Kentucky
-
Innovative and enthusiastic use of EE tools or best practices
-
Sharing ideas and techniques with colleagues
-
Collaborating with the broader EE community
-
Demonstrating outstanding action, contribution, and leadership in supporting EE
The nominee should be recognized for one or more of the following:
To nominate someone, submit:

A resume or CV (max two pages)

A Nomination Form with a narrative (max two pages) that may include:

Description of the program the nominee developed or implemented

Examples of innovation and effective use of EE tools or practices

How the nominee shares ideas and collaborates with the EE community

The impact of their contributions on colleagues, workplace, and other organizations

Kentucky Green School of the Year
This award will be presented to the school with a green team that has gone above and beyond to complete one or more investigations and implement action projects to benefit their school and those who attend and work there.
The nominee should be known for one or more of the following:

Registered in the Kentucky Green School program
-
Formed a green team
-
Completed one or more of the KGS Investigations
-
Developed an action plan based on the results of their investigation
-
Submitted the KGS recognition form

School administrators, staff, or community members aware of a Kentucky Green School that has completed the above requirements are invited to submit a nomination today. Members of a green team or the participating teacher are welcome to submit a self-nomination!
