Outdoor Learning Symposium

Building support for outdoor and environmental education in Kentucky classrooms

What is the Outdoor Learning Symposium?

The Outdoor Learning Symposium (OLS) is a one-day event designed for K-12 classroom teachers and administrators to attend as teams and leave better prepared to integrate environmental and outdoor education in their school setting. The day is filled with concurrent sessions tailored to meet the needs of administrators and teachers, in addition to team planning and networking time. Schools represented by a team of at least one administrator and classroom teacher can apply for a $250 mini-grant to support student-led outdoor learning projects.

Sessions are interactive, engaging, and most importantly, get you outside! You'll find topics supported by research, that offer practical integration tips and correlate to academic standards. From getting a broader perspective on the benefits of learning outdoors to the practical application and local resources available to area schools, this event is sure to be inspiring and relevant to teachers and administrators. Participants receive a certificate of completion for 6 hours of professional development. EILA credits will be available for administrators.

All participants are welcome. For questions regarding access and accommodations, contact Perry Thomas, Program Director, at perry@kaee.org before the event.

Registration Details

Standard Rate: $50

The standard registration rate for this event is $50. Sliding scale registration* rates are available to all attendees. Please choose the rate that best fits your needs and join us in May!

About the Sliding Scale Registration*

Our sliding-scale registration rate is an intentional effort of class solidarity to ensure the event is accessible to all. What is Class Solidarity? Class refers to where you fit into the world regarding finances (for example, poor, working class, middle class, wealthy). If you are attending and your school is paying for your participation, please choose the "Stardard Rate" option, unless this will also be a barrier for your school (limited budgets, etc.). If you or your school can pay the full cost, you will be taking an action of solidarity and making KAEE's Outdoor Learning Symposium more accessible for teachers and administrators who cannot afford to pay much. If cost is a barrier, certainly consider the available sliding scale rates. No matter what you pay for the event, there is no judgment. Pay what you can and most importantly: be there! We are so excited to gather with you.
